Recently we went to Dubbo for the weekend and stayed with our good friends Kel and Murray. These are the people who were instrumental in Trevor and I meeting and getting together, and they have always been a very important part of our family life. The kids love Anna and Ben, Murray and Kel's kids, and love spending time with them but life is often just too busy so the visits are not as frequent as we would all like.

Ben is 9, and he is so good with Hamish and Lachlan. Patient, responsible, caring, and best of all, just as excited about spending time with them as they always are to see him. Ben is hero to both Lachlan and Hamish, but particularly Lachlan. We call him their "special cousin". Although they are not related, as "friend" does not seem to hold enough love and importance to describe the way Lachlan feels about Ben.

So on this visit he decked both boys and himself out in homemade military gear, bags, guns, walkie talkies, etc, and off they went to the "base camp". Ben was the commander (as apparently his jacket says this, therefore it is so!) and Hamish and Lachlan were privates. This shot shows them resenting the interruption to their very imaginative, comprehensive army games. They were having so much fun, as they always do when they get together. There is normally at least one boy in tears when it comes time to say goodbye each visit.
